1.8 Liter Engines: The most common Nissan 1.8-liter engines fall into the QG and MR engine classes. There are some different kinds of 1.8-liter engines by Nissan. One of the main problems with some of the older 1.8-liter engines by Nissan is that they consume a large amount of oil. These engines came in naturally aspirated and turbocharged configurations but all had dual overhead cam (DOHC) cylinder heads.

• QG18DE This 1.8-liter Nissan engine features a cast-iron block with aluminum dual overhead cam (DOHC) cylinder heads and multi-port fuel injection. This engine also featured a valve control system and was rated 115 hp in most applications. It was put into production in the 2000-2006 Nissan Sentra in the United States.
• MR18DE For the North American version of this engine, the output is 122 horsepower at 5500 RPM and it was used as a 2009-2014 Nissan Cube engine. It was a naturally aspirated inline 4-cylinder Nissan engine.
• MRA8DE This is another 1.8-liter engine by Nissan. It differs compared to the MR18DE engine in several different ways in that it features a twin variable valve timing (VVT) system on the intake valve as well as on the exhaust valve side. It also utilizes a diamond-like carbon coating. This engine produces 128 horsepower at 6000 RPM. The compression ratio for the MRA8DE engine is 9:9:1. The MRA8DE is utilized as a 2013-present Nissan Cube engine.
• MR18DDT One significant difference between this engine and both the MR18DE and MRA8DE engines is that it includes a turbocharger. This turbo 1.8 Nissan engine also has the same variable valve timing (VVT) system on the intake valve as well as on the exhaust valve. It also uses a diamond-like carbon coating like the MRA8DE engine.
