- M52B28 - This was the first of the 2.8-liter inline 6 BMW motors and was first used in 1995. It produced 190hp with a compression ratio of 10.2:1. This engine was used in the 1995-1999 BMW 323i/ 323ci, 1995-1998 BMW 528i, 1995-1998 BMW 728i/ 728iL, and the 1997-1998 BMW Z3 2.8.
- M52TUB28 - This 2.8 BMW straight-6 engine is found in the 1998-2000 BMW 328i/ 328ci, 1998-2000 BMW Z3 2.8, 1998-2000 BMW 528i, and the 1998-2000 BMW 728i. It was rated at 190 horsepower in its stock form. This engine did include the double VANOS variable valve timing (VVT) system.
