5.0-Liter Engines: BMW produced 5.0-liter V8 and V10 engines under the S62 and S85 engine classes which contained the S85B50 and S62B50 motors. The S85 engine class was manufactured under a 90-degree V10 engine configuration with an aluminum block and aluminum dual overhead cam (DOHC) cylinder heads. The S62 engine class featured all-aluminum engines and the S62B50 was the largest in the class.

• S62B50 - Used exclusively as a 1998-2003 BMW M5 engine and a 2000-2003 BMW Z3 engine. It should be noted that this was the first V8 BMW engine that came with the double VANOS variable valve timing (VVT) technology. This engine has a compression ratio of 11.0:1, a double-row timing chain, dual air intakes, and a semi-dry oil sump system. The S62 engine for sale was rated at 394 horsepower from the factory.
• S85B50 - This iconic 5.0 V10 BMW engine came for sale in the 2005-2010 BMW M5 as their high-performance powerhouse. This was BMW’s first V10 ever used in a production vehicle. It produced 500 horsepower at 7,500 rpm so it was indeed a high-revving engine with a compression ratio of 12.0:1. This 5.0 V10 BMW engine was used in the 2005-2010 BMW M5 as well as the 2005-2010 BMW M6.
